What Else Happened On March 17th

Although we all know the 17th of March for that snake obsessed saint called Patrick, who spread Christianity all across Ireland (regrettable I know). Nevertheless, the 17th of March is actually renowned for a number of other famous events, discoveries, deaths and births. So If you feel like you can't celebrate St. Patrick's day, celebrate or commemorate one of these.

45 BC- Julius Caesar claims his last victory in the Battle of Munda.

180 AD- Marcus Aurelius dies (one of my favourite philosophers, MRHP will be raising a drink to him).

1845- The Rubber band was first patented.

1919- Nate King Cole is born, a famous American jazz musician.

1942- The first Jews from Lviv Ghetto are gassed in Belzec death camp in Poland.

1942- John Wayne Gacy is born, not so good.

1955- Gary Sinese, is born, American actor.

1964- Lee Dixon is born, English footballer.

1969- Alexander McQueen is born, British fashion designer.

1992- A referendum to end apartheid in South Africa was passed.

I'm sure a few more people have got up to a few more things throughout the ages, this is just a taste. Happy Rubber Band day!
