George Clooney’s Anti-Genocide Project In Sudan

South Sudan, will become fully independent on July 9, 2011. With the birth of a new nation comes the danger and deprecation of such a split with an angry, tyrannical ex. Just imagine your ex-boyfriend or girlfriend is Stalin or Elena Chauchesk, that’s what the people of South Sudan are dealing with.

George Clooney with the support of human right activist John Prendergast has devised an innovative new method to combat a war that seems potentially Red Sea sized lethal and ominous with the gruesome atrocities of genocide in Darfur, Congo and Rwanda. They aim to implement the Satellite Sentinel Project. This technology was described by a top U.N imagery analyst as   "Google Earth on lots of steroids," At http://www.flickr.com/photos/digitalglobe-imagery/sets/72157625789759157/show/ you can see some of the first images of this project.

In the future this project could prevail and prevent other regions' evil governments from covering up genocides by setting up surveillance via satellites to monitor the area. These evil governments will be unable to destroy evidence and block access to the outside world as they have done in the past. If they know there been watched then they are less likely to commit such atrocities. As Clooney himself says "This is as if this were 1943 and we had a camera inside Auschwitz and we said, 'O.K., if you guys don't want to do anything about it, that's one thing,'" Clooney says. "But you can't say you did not know."

They have a website http://www.satsentinel.org/ where people can participate in different ways to help prevent Sudan from becoming the next Darfur. They also have a twitter page at  http://twitter.com/sudansentinel
