What Is The World's Most Expensive Painting?

So what is the world's most expensive painting? No.5 1948 by Jackson Pollock, sold in 2006 for 140 million dollars. You will find two photographs of No.5 1948 below-I prefer to show it in a gallery space, to allow the viewer to appreciate its spatial personality. It is worth noting that another Jackson Pollock painting Blue Poles if sold would sell for at least 180 million dollars. Another challenger would be no doubt the Mona Lisa, in 1962 it was estimated to be worth by insurance companies 100 million dollars, taking into account inflation that would make it worth 743 million dollars today. Think of all the ipods Leonardo da Vinci could buy if he was alive today! Although I think it really would be worth billions if we take into account its cultural status that it has now achieved in our society making it priceless. In the movie 2012 starring John Cusack, the Mona Lisa is the only painting saved from the planet which is about to end in apocalypse. I couldn't help thinking throughout the film would it really matter if the Mona Lisa was destroyed with the rest of earth? Shouldn't they focus on saving human lives!?

Was at the Tate Modern the other day and thought this clip of Tacita Dean's new addition to The Unilever Series would be of interest. Although it is obviously still under construction it is nice to get a glimpse of it at this stage and I will put more clips up when the installation is finished. The Artist Who Ate A Fetus For Realz!

This calm and composed man is artist Zhu Yu, who got his hands on some aborted fetuses, went and cooked and ate the fetus for a series he called 'Eating People'. He has related his performance to his Christian faith, 'Jesus is always related It death, blood, wounds, etc.'This kind of art has been tagged 'Shock Art' an extreme form of art that is embraced in China, where revolution is bubbling up.

When the photographs originally surfaced and even appeared on a Channel 4 documentary about modern Chinese art, there were doubts if the photographs were real, turns out they were! Channel 4 got in trouble for a a "lack of respect for human dignity" for broadcasting the image of Yu eating a fetus. Channel 4 hit back by saying that the image was acceptable in that it remitted to"take on challenging subjects and explore cultural boundaries".
